Just as students learn best through differentiated instruction, so do teachers. In some cases, school-wide in-services are appropriate; in many cases, job-embedded mentoring and coaching is the best learning approach, as it is individualized specifically to meet the needs of each teacher. Teachers must develop their understandings of content knowledge and best practices for instruction in ways that meet their own learning style so that student achievement is accelerated.
As teachers are supported through coaching and mentoring, they will gain confidence, be more successful, remain in the teaching profession long-term, and experience greater fulfillment in their career.
